COMBAT STORIES FROM World War II

Herbert Stewart | 575th Bomb Squadron, 391st Bomb Group - Army Air Corps

4:59   |   Like many young men at the time, he was out to save the world. Herbert Stewart wanted to learn to fly, so he enlisted in the Air Corps. Almost immediately, they decided they did not need any more pilots so he became a Radio Operator/Gunner. The gun he mentions was actually a 30 cal machine gun, the standard armament on a B-26. He was soon assigned to a crew and on the way to Europe.
